I am a Senior Security Consultant with a specialist IA focused technology consultancy building on my extensive knowledge and experience in delivering IT into the emergency services, and acting as a trusted advisor to Senior Manager on technical and security issues. I have had the pleasure of working with a range of challenges across a very wide range of technology disciplines and with hugely diverse groups of people at all levels, bridging the gap between the technologists and the business leaders – two groups that rarely speak the same language.

Highlights of my career

• Delivered the £100m outsourcing of the Metropolitan Police Telephony Service reducing costs and establishing the first contractually backed service levels into the MPS. The service requires a combination of high availability,  flexibility and an audit-able level of business security.
• Delivered the first converged data and telephony system into the MPS proving the viability of this technology in an emergency service against severe cultural resistance.
• Delivered a £1.4m per year saving to the MPS telephony service, through a combination of savings within the MPS and within the supply chain.
• Delivered and migrated the life and mission critical telecommunications infrastructure for the MPS 999 emergency call handling centres on time and under budget and the without loss of a single call.
• Delivered the design and business case for the MPS Real Time Communications Programme – the “Largest transformation programme in the UK” (BT) and one of Cisco’s globally largest deployments. Subsequently deployed and delivering business benefits and cost savings. The solution required the assured separation of systems at different security levels and high levels of availability.
• Led the MPS’s involvement with the UK Government’s Public Service Network Programme, representing the Criminal Justice Community of Interest on the PSN National Programme Board. Senior User on the National Policing Deployment of PSN – PSN for Policing – within the UK Home Office.
• Silver Commander for Cyber- and Critical Systems Protection; delivering a successful visit of the US President to the UK in collaboration with the US Secret Service.
• Successfully delivering support on technology issues and futures to the MPS Management Board and other UK and international police services.
• Represented the Criminal Justice Community on CESG’s IP Crypto Security Working Group – adopting the US HAIPE standards into the UK as the PRIME Encryption Suite for network encryptors.
• Elected to the Strategic Board of the Communications Managers Association, providing national and cross business sector policy advice and lobbying services on UK and International telecommunications issues.
• ISO27001 Lead Auditor. I like audit: Focus not on What is Wrong? but on Why is this Wrong? and how can it be fixed?
• Developed the Cyber Security Guidance for UK VIP Security Coordinators.
